Play a bit with the price for an item so people will undercut, doing this with items that have a high demand (profession mats) can make you slowly but surely rich doing this. It doesn't always work, you'll have to lure them to undercut by undercutting yourself so be careful. But after awhile you'll know when to start undercutting and keep watching the AH for new posts and buy them directly, once it's working out you can make tons of money with this.

After you know your market a little better, setting yourself personal price in which you refuse to drop below. You'll know something isn’t worth amount and you'll never drop below it, plus seeing others at/around this price could lead to a steal! Would recommend as atomicwolf22 did with addons to assist in use of the AH.

I personally have two AH addons both in use to get as much data about prices as I can. When it comes to trading, I want to make profit. Get out of the farmer's market. If the price of mats is so low, you need to start crafting. Create something of greater value and sell it.

Another thing to pay attention to is the day / time of day. On my server, mats are much cheaper on the weekend. So I buy my mats on the weekends, and sell my crafted items later in the week when the supply is lower, and the prices are higher. There's no need to give away crafted items just because the weekend warriors have driven the price down. 

Something I like to play with when there are no mats on the AH before I post mine is to post a couple higher than you normally would. This can do two things for you. #1 if someone that has a lot of wow game card can't make it themselves may pay a rediculous price because they have the gold. It allows you to still get a better price when someone undercuts you and you undercut them in return.

Also be careful when you see an item horribly underpriced when there are others that are much higher than it. Normally that means the expensive ones aren't selling. However like you saw with the pet sometimes this works out in your favor. I have made some big profits like this. I once bought a weapon for 200g that was selling normally for 6k. I don't know if the person that posted either didn't know or didn't care but I made a huge profit from that. I have also made a loss of about 900g trying to do the same thing so you get lucky sometimes and others you don't that's just life though.

It’s how any economy works, back in burning crusade the mats for netherweave bags dropped but bags didn’t. So I just spent all my money mats and put them in ah for 1/3 of the price of others, because it was so low they sold almost instantly and no one undeer cut me cause farming the mats was a pain.

After you make enough gold you will not need worry about your Wow game time card. Just enjoy the fun of the game.
